Company Overview: Join a prestigious tier 1 contractor at the forefront of delivering cutting-edge infrastructure projects. Currently seeking a talented Quantity Surveyor to play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of a multi-million-pound major new train maintenance depot project.

Position Overview: As a freelance Quantity Surveyor, you will be an integral part of our project team, responsible for managing all aspects of cost control and commercial management throughout the life cycle of the project. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a high-profile project, including the construction of a new maintenance facility building, four sidings, superstructure, fit out of a new shed, and installation of a test track.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports.
  • Conduct regular cost analysis and risk assessments to ensure project profitability.
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, tendering, and contractual agreements.
  • Evaluate variations and negotiate change orders with clients and subcontractors.
  • Monitor project progress and expenditure against agreed budgets and time lines.
  • Collaborate closely with the project team to identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and industry regulations.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reporting to senior management.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Quantity Surveyor on large-scale construction projects, preferably within the rail or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement processes, and commercial management principles.
  • Excellent analytical and negotiation skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, Build soft, or similar).
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS) is desirable but not essential.
